Profile: The Cafe Irreal is a semi-annual web-zine that focuses on readers and writers of literary fiction with fantastic themes. (They note such authors as Franz Kafka and Jorge Luis Borges.) The Cafe Irreal offers a type of fiction that "defies many of the conventions of, especially, American literature."

Publication Needs: The Cafe Irreal accepts stories by writers who write about what they don't know. (Literary fiction with fantastic themes.)

Story Length: Accepts fiction up to 2,000 words. There is no minimum.

Rights Purchased: The Cafe Irreal requires First Time Rights.

Payment Terms: Payment is 1 cent per word with a $2.00 minimum.

Submission Guidelines: Authors may submit work via e-mail; however, submissions must be pasted into the body of the e-mail message. Simultaneous submissions will not be accepted. CI accepts multiple submissions as long as the word count does not total more than 2,000 words. Submission deadlines are posted on the site. Authors should follow submission guidelines carefully.

Response Time: Reports on submissions within two months.
